I've tried my Asus eeePC but it refuses to play Youtube videos. Audio starts playing but video stays stuck on the starting frame. This is spoofing as iPhone and Safari. Howeve, this machine does just have 1 GB of memory, so possibly that's the problem.

Cheers,
Nigel.

@ntromans

I've seen this behavior before but it happens when YT JavaScript is not fully loaded. Can you wait until the "sign in" button is visible and then after "person" icon left to it loads. This marks that most of JS was loaded/executed. Try playing video only then.

The other test is as follows: when playing (and not seeing video updated), open shell and type dir - does the comman execute immediatelly or lines appear slow, one by one?

I haven't had a moment ti try the eeePC again but on my i5 machine just picked up stack out of range error attached. The website being browsed was https://robbrepor...35895517/.

Sorry,
Nigel.

Thanks for the report! I visited this page a few times and didn't get the crash, however the specific place on your screen shot is something I've seen once or twice when using Odyssey. There is a bug there - but not easy to reproduce.

Hi All,

We are almost at release!

Here is a release-candidate of Odyssey 2.0: https://axrt.org/development/owb/i386/owb-2.0-RC1.i386-aros.zip

If no major problem is found, this build will become final release.

Changes from last build:
- improve video frame display. Now it takes 1.5ms per frame (was 7ms) on 1.6Ghz CPU. This will make videos play better on slower hardware. However every time JavaScript kicks in in background you will still see stuttering. This is solved on 64-bit by having JIT.

Most likely tomorrow I will also release an U2 release candidate in AROS ABIv0 release thread

@serk118uk, @Amiwell79

I did a test of Odyssey under iMica, which is ATOM 330 1.6Ghz, 1GB RAM, IntelGMA - so pretty similar to Acer netbook.

Here are the steps:
1. Installed clean 20220318-1
2. Applied 20220318-1 U2 updated
3. Installed above Odyssey RC build

In essense it was a clean system.

The I started Odyssey, waited for it to index fonts. Next I navigated to youtube.com. I waited around a minute for the "cookies reject/accept" dialog to show. I clicked 'reject' once. Then I waited around minute for search field to appear as well as some menu elements on the left. I searched for "amiga music mix". Typing in was noticably slow. I then selected 3rd or 4th video in the list.

Loading video took some time, but again after around a minute I pressed play. Here happened something similar to what @ntromans reported. Audio was playing but image was not updating. I then changed video to another one containing trackers. Here video started playing at around 1FPS-5FPS. I stopped video, change spoofing to iPhone and reloaded. After that I started video and with these settings I got around 15FPS-20FPS.

My summary is that default YT is too heavy for Atom, but spoofing as iPhone is a workable workaround. Hopefully with these steps as I described, you will be able to have video working. Key for me is having a clean system and giving time for YT to execute JavaScript.

@deadwood In the past, Odyssey allowed to enable or disable certain video codecs via preferences.

Having the option to disable AV1 and HEVC can help greatly on low-performance devices.

Spoofing as different devices can produce similar results but may affect other parts of the user experience in undesired ways.

Unfortunatelly these options don't work ATM, though they might be fixed in next major version. What what I can gather from people's reports, the problems are more with JS loading/executing - so even before video starts playing.

Can you make a photo of what you mean by "freezing"? What you see on screen when that happens.
Second question - at which step of my process above does the freeze happen?

Can't you take picture with your phone? Best if you could record a video showing what is happening on Odyssey from the moment you start loading youtube.

Can you make me a photo showing how YT page looks like after you searched for something in main page?
When entering main page, before searching, do you see the "Sign in" button and "person" icon next to it?

Ok, so it freezes even before finishing loading main page - similar as it was heppening before.

However I also see that your window decorations are different than standard build and you have quick links visible in Odyssey, which suggest to me this is not a clean system installation and not clean Odyssey directory.

Unfortunatelly with such weird behavior, every single configuration or component difference can be the cuause. I'm sorry, but at this moment I don't have an idea how to help you.

I think I got somewhere, please watch the video
I can actually watch the videos linked to this forum , click on play than starts playing if I resize owb window , in short video plays if I resfresh owb window.

But direct youtube.com gives me (watch video before this)
