Actually they can be done with Zune, as you can see in the screenshot, to a Zune/MUI App I put an image of yours as background, and also added my own buttons.

Zune would be even better if we could use custom buttons & other custom gadgets & to be able to select colors for background & gadgets.

For example if I'm not satisfied with the symbol for the Radio Button or Checkbox I should be able to use my own artwork for these gadgets. And if I want a blue button or green button the color selection should be possible for Zune.

I would like Zune much more if I could customize it so it appears the way I want it to be. :-)

However ZUNE (MUI clone) works very well, in fact I find it more convenient than MUI on some functions I use for Application Themes!

I think even if better formulated and politely asked there would be no difference. No reaction propably or No. This was asked before already, as I understand it the creator of MUI Stefan Stuntz would have been open but others in MorphOS team were against it because they see it as a critical MorphOS technology. I do not think that this has changed.

I don't see how insulting Morphos development and suggesting it become a version of AROS will be a convincing argument to them
