Amigamia: Sure was. I wanted to make AspireOS as clean as possible. File size down is what I aim for.

You should look here for software.

Tried Quake shortly and it is blazing fast!! Going to have to add some extra software though. What is in the top 10 for AROS? OWB? Janus-UAE? Oh I also noticed there were games in AspireOS 2.0 that are not part of 2.1. Was that intentional?

nikos! Got my USB stick today. Thank you so very much. I was able to install it after a few attempts to do it the right way. Now I am just waiting for the wireless card so I can download all other software etc.

very nice! Yeah laptops of that generation were easy to upgrade the CPU. I did the same on an IBM A31

Some pictures of the installation of new CPU.
Nice they not solder the CPU on this laptop. Easy task to change it.
Just remember to add some CPU pasta.

Here is video to show some benchmark after the change.

Why not have some fun for cheap money. For 5 - 10 euro it is easy to find Intel T2400 core2duo cpu on eBay. This is the most powerful CPU used in this laptop. I will try to change it on one of my D520s that got t2300. It should be easy. I bring you the result when I have changed it.

I installed T2400 today. Works great. I will put up some pictures and a video about it.
I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about T2400 is the most powerfull CPU for this laptop. I will buy a T7200. That one should be the fastest CPU for this laptop :) It is sweet that the CPU on this laptop is not soldered.

Amigamia: It is from optical disk you try to boot right?

Some times I had to try many times before Grub showed up. If you get some error you can can try to type exit, and you will get to the grub menu.

Amigamia: That looks right. AspireOS 2,1 is only for real hardware like this laptop.

Hmm that's interesting. Not even the grub starts? I mean I understand it is for specific laptops but I thought the boot into grub was agnostic of the device. The thing is, it wouldn't boot on the Dell D520 either.

I guess I'll be patient and wait for the USB stick :-)

No such luck nikos. I downloaded the .rar file, extracted the iso and mounted on VirtualBox as I have done many times with Aspire Os and other OS. It won't boot. Skipping the media and the CD/DVD player.

I can confirm it does not boot as a mounted ISO on Virtual Box either.

Error: FATAL Could not read from the boot medium! System halted.

Hi nikos,

While waiting for the USB stick (Thanks a million!) I tried to download the ISO of Aspire OS 2.1 and boot from the CD but I have tried already several CDs + different burners and it does not seem to boot? I thought It was the DVD player on the D520 but I tried other linux DVDs and it works fine. Plus, the Aspire OS 2.1 CD are not booting on other laptops I have around. Can you check?

amigamia: That is not possible. You need to install AROS or AspireOS to a Smart file system formated USB drive and if you are going to do that you need to install from some virtual player running AROS.
Just pm me your address and I send AspireOS to you on a USB stick. That saves you a lot of trouble :)
When you get that stick you can easily install to your internal drive.
